Caracas, August 18, 2026 (Prensa Ingeomin).- With the aim of articulating preventive measures in the face of the arrival of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENOS) phenomenon, the National Institute of Geology and Mining (INGEOMIN), an entity attached to the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecological Mining Development and Basic Industries, participated in a technical-scientific meeting convened by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMEH) and the Vice Ministry for Risk Management and Civil Protection.
During the activity, described as a space for information exchange and diagnosis between various State entities, specialists from INAMEH presented the evolution of warming in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and its projections for the national territory. According to the forecasts exposed, although the country is going through a period of drought with intermittent rainfall, the most pronounced thermal variations on agriculture, livestock and ecosystems will be more evident for the dry period of 2027.
Inter-institutional coordination
The meeting was also represented by various executive portfolios, including Transport, Labor, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Productive Agriculture and Land, and the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC).
In this space, the institutions addressed the reactivation of the Energy Management Units in the workplaces, aimed at monitoring and efficient use of electrical energy in administrative headquarters to reduce the load on the National Electrical System (SEN).
INGEOMIN will continue to join the next working groups, with the firm premise of contributing geoscientific data to the National Mitigation Plan and guaranteeing responsible and sustainable management of the country’s mineral resources.
